Southern Methodist University’s mission statement expresses the values I admire and seek in a University such as, “promoting an environment emphasizing individual dignity and worth”. Being a student that struggled in school early on, I knew re-building my-self-worth would be crucial for success in college. Following my enrolment at Tarrant County College, I have joined the Cornerstone honors program offered at the campus and elected officer of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. These two organizations have served as complimentary forces that have enriched me with leadership, fellowship and intellectual skills I will contribute to my community. I view Southern Methodist University as a local gem.…

Middle school can be an odd and rough time for kids, as they change from being sheltered youth to responsible young adults. I failed miserably at handling that transition. The classes taught in middle school were supposed to be easy, especially now that I look in retrospect. Yet, I regularly brought home B’s and low A’s, at best, on my report card. I had barely challenged myself in middle school, if at all.…

My past laid out upon a table. My GPA, my resume, my test scores. An unfamiliar man whom I met for the first time was frowning, turning around in his creaky red chair, while hurriedly trying to contextualize my life with just a few pieces of paper. For 15 minutes, he sat there, unhappy, tapping his foot, analyzing what I’ve “done” with my life. He took a sip of water and suggested that I go to community college.…

I started attending Lone star college right after high school, at first, I began with the typical high school graduate state of mind, which was that college was going to be a breeze and that it would all be fun and games; more worried about what was going on in my social life rather than studying the books. Especially since I had no real responsibilities to handle or much life experience. Around my first year of college, I started dating this girl and not long after we conceived our first son. Once this happened, my focus slowly shifted from school to working a full-time job at a welding shop in order to provide for my family. I still tried to attend class but was unable to find the balance between work, school and family and this reflected my grades.…

While at a Community College, I have had time to grow and mature into a finer young adult than I came out of High School. I learned to live on my own and take care of myself, while continuing to acquire training and education. It was also a time I took to figure who I am and who I want to be. With that in mind, I have found that I desire to continue growing at a different institution. While I have learned a significant amount of things in my current college and enjoyed every minute of it, I will be graduating from its program soon and wish to explore opportunities elsewhere.…

I hope to be involved in marching band, I also want to have a job on campus, and help my fellow students, and I also want to go to a lot of KSU sporting events with my friends. I think the fact that I care about more than just academics will reduce my stress level too, and make me generally happier too. I hope that the more accepting college atmosphere will improve my happiness, and make me a better friend, and then I will have more energy to make those around me happier. As children we’re asked what we want to be when we grow up and we reply, President, Doctor, or Astronaut, my long chosen occupation is to be an Animal behaviorist. They study the way animals behave and they try and figure out how, and why they behave the way they do. It’s a very well chosen occupation if you love working with animals. After comparing the Ohio State University, Auburn University, and Texas A&M University, based on hours required to graduate, tuition costs, and required classes needed, Auburn University would best suite me to set out and become an Animal behaviorist.
