Statement Of Purpose: A Career As A Criminologist

My goal in attending graduate school is to prepare for a career in research and teaching as a criminologist. Although I plan on ultimately working as an educator, I want to do research that addresses real-world issues faced in criminal activities. More and more criminologists are recognizing that effective management of criminal activities depend on a broad interdisciplinary perspective and training that includes not only a strong social science background, but a basic understanding of social and economic issues. I am applying to the Criminal Justice department specifically because your program will allow me to get understanding training in criminal research while also taking courses in policy and social science, as well as interacting online with graduate students and faculty in the field.

My background has prepared me well to take on graduate research in criminology and participate in a challenging interdisciplinary program. I earned a B.S. Communication play a major role inside prison and jail. It is a skill any person working inside prison or jail must master. Communication inside prison and jail takes different form. The ability to communicate well with the offenders inside the prison can affect the dynamic of the prison and jail environment. It takes well trained officer to master the skill. Asking offenders to do what you want them to do takes a special skill. Every daily life of offenders in prison and jail revolves around communication.
