Formulate Goals and a Statement of Intent When entering a graduate program in education, it is important to understand the person’s goals, background, and reason for wanting to pursue a master’s degree in education. The purpose of this paper is to gain a better understanding of the background and interests, of the personal and professional visions, of the strengths and challenges, and of the skills and characteristics that are important to succeed in a graduate program in education.

The major steps needed to achieve this vision are receiving my master’s degree in education and applying for a full-time faculty position in a dental hygiene program.
Strengths and Challenges There are personal strengths that will support my training, and there are challenges that I will have to overcome while pursuing my master’s degree. In Angela Lee Duckworth’s The Key to Success? Grit video, she states that grit is needed to succeed in accomplishing one’s goal (Ted, 2013). I believe that my personal strengths of being organized, being self-driven, and being able to meet commitments will help me succeed in obtaining my goal of earning my master’s degree. My challenge that I will have to overcome is that I will need to learn when to say no to people.
Northcentral and You My education in the Master of Education program will fit into my personal and professional development aspirations. This program will fit into my personal and professional life by allowing me to schedule around my work schedule. The online courses allow me to finish my course work at my own pace and at times when it is convenient for me. This program will also help me become a full-time faculty member in a dental hygiene
