The advantages of use concrete and blocks have:
 Provide a good strength and thermal resistance to the wall and has a very long life span.
 These materials are also cheap and easily available.
 Some areas also consist of cavity walls to provide good water drainage. The blocks are then covered with cement and sand mixture which give a strong moisture-resistant rendering.
 This type of insulation is subject to cracking due to high water shrinkage as Malaysia is a tropical country and there may be high rainfall during raining seasons.
 This external wall is strong enough to withstand the inclement weather.
 There have maintained the wall regularly to ensure that will not collapse and guarantee safety. Figure 3.1.1 concrete and block finish Figure 3.1.2 water drainage

Finally the external wall is coated with a primer and then painted white. As per requirements, this wall should be able to protect the interior from: moisture, water, hot temperature from sunlight and strong impacts. Figure 3.1.2 shows the final product of an external wall in the building

2) Internal walls should be made fireproof and fire doors should be implemented. Such walls have no windows and are made of non-combustible material such as concrete, cement block, brick or fire rated drywall and have wall penetrations sealed with special materials.
3) In order to remove cracking issues lime should be added to external wall cement and sand mixtures. They will thus have a lower drying shrinkage but will be more absorbent than only cement and sand mixes. Plastering with this mixture also provide extra protection against moisture.
SUBTRUCTURE
 RETAINING WALLS
For the retaining walls, it must be replaced by a new one. The contractor must make sure that steel bars are included and the right amount of concrete is used. To make it better, more weep hole could be included and an underground pipe could also be added to diminish the problem of water.

The border and the constructions inside it are not symmetrical; the four arms of the cruciform are skewed and stretched. This indicates that the outline of the addition is responding to inner and outer forces. For example, the northernmost spar is widened and its end bows outwards to form the large lecture hall and library within. However, this does not simply mean that this section of the building fits O’Gorman’s generalizations for additive buildings. The other three arms show the divisive method where office spaces are divided.…

Of the many things that made Romans one of the greatest ancient civilizations, her architecture was near the top of her accomplishments. For the basis of their architecture, the Romans borrowed extensively from the Greeks, mimicking their iconic columns and colonnade structures. While their early architecture was heavily based on the Greeks, it was their advancements in the use of the arch and their invention of concrete where the Romans came into their own and set themselves apart from other civilizations at that time. The invention of concrete opened new doors architecturally for the Romans.…

The monument I would create is in Boston, Massachusetts, which is a historically rich city, but I would create a monument to one specific event named the Boston Massacre. This is a significant event in the history of United States, where British troops murdered some Americans after they formed a mob. This partly led up to the Revolutionary War where America fought Britain. This monument would be made of dolomitic marble. It would contain a 20 x 20 replication of Paul Revere’s engraving of the Boston Massacre, and under it an inscription explaining the Boston Massacre.…

Lessons learned from Hurricane Katrina The tragedy formed a great baseline for the development of better communication and evacuation policies to help during disaster management such as Hurricane Katrina. Such lessons led to the institution of the Army Corps of Engineers who helped in the reconstructions of the destroyed sleeves and making the barriers much higher than the initial ones (Galea & Brewin, 2007). The current barriers were supported by steel beams extending to about 19.8 meters below the sea levels thereby making them much stronger (McKay, 2006).…

Mohammed Waseem Chiraagh 1380983 ARCH 6313 - Critical Studies 3 Major Assignment Traditionally as humans, when critiquing a building our thoughts are based on the buildings form as a whole, one defined object or boundary made up of different components which creates the overall look, structure and how it fits into the contextual surroundings. In the text “Why Architecture Matters” Paul Goldberger, shows that not only the outer boundary or façade is important but that there is another dimension which is often open to wider interpretation and often disregarded when thinking about a building. This being the interior space within these boundaries, the interior of the building says a lot more than its exterior, as it defines the space, the light and the mood it creates.…
