Defining Christian leader in the 21th century can be a lot different from 60 years ago. However the responsibility to lead and govern the people of God never changes His word is the final authority. Leadership often takes on different titles and can be secular or Christian. Secular leaders fail to take into account God’s will and the guidance he gives to leaders. Spiritual leaders are directed by the Holy Spirit not by their own agendas. They don’t try to satisfy the goals and ambitions of the people they lead but rather they seek to serve and obey God. Stanley Hauewas states, the early church had a model that I still find affective for choosing leadership today. Hauerwas refers to the Luke’s writing in the book of Acts 6:2-3 Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty. 4 But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word." Luke writes in this chapter a need to have more leaders to help meet the needs of the widows in the early church. The first thing I in see in this verse is the word brothers. This word is used to describe followers of Christ. Then the verse says chose seven men of good repute. According to The Moody Bible commentary reputable men whose character was known by others. Though serving widows might seem like a mundane task, those chosen should be full of the spirit of wisdom. This means they should be obedient to the Spirit of God leading and of sufficient experience and knowledge to make disciples consistent with the will of God. I agree with Hauerwas about these verses they define what leadership should look for in the church. This book allows Christian Leaders to view their lives, leadership styles and mistakes. Saul was a very angry and jealous man he hated David. King David a servant leader, shepherd and warrior. King Saul’s tries to kill David by throwing spears at him. David response reminds me of Jesus, his submission, humility and compassion didn’t allow him to act out of character. King David models servant leadership in his willingness to serve King Saul. King Absalom was a very disrespectful he despised his father leadership can couldn’t wait to be
