In the book Stanger’s to these Shores they described culture as a set of societal elements shared by a group of people passed from generation to generation ( p.26). Culture is one reason we cannot all get along. Cultural values and beliefs that are being passed down form generation to generation is known as cultural transmission. There are two types of culture, material culture and nonmaterial culture. Material culture includes foods, clothing, art, and weapons. Nonmaterial cultures are languages, gestures, and values. Cultural shock may happen when an individual is introduced to unfamiliar cultures.
