Use of standardized nursing language for documentation of nursing care is vital both to the nursing profession and to the bedside/direct care nurse (Rutherford, 2008). One way of ensuring a unique communicating system in a clinical setting is the adoption of standardization of nursing language (SNL). According to the American Nurses Association (2015), the Standardization of nursing language (SNL) has become a valuable tool to promote interoperability between multiple concepts, nomenclatures, and information systems. Also, characteristics are gathered through data that are consistent and meaningful. This gained knowledge can then be shared to support positive outcomes and identify problem areas.
