Born and Raised in west Britain, Saint Patrick grew up in a small village until the young age of sixteen. His father being a deacon and his grandfather a priest, Patrick was quite familiar with the idea of God. Though, his faith was never strong as a child. Patrick remained in Britain, until he was captured by a group of Irish Pirates and was taken captive to work as a slave for the King. Through the hard work and pain, He realized how far he was from God, and drew back to him finding hope and freedom. Patrick labored for six years until he finally decided to run away back to England. Bravely he fled from his master, on to a long travel back home.
`Two hundred miles away, was a ship which would take him home. He walked the ____ until he finally found it. He spent three days on the ship until they landed in Britain but still had quite the distance to go. The crew hiked for about a month, finishing rations faster than expected and becoming very restless. Patrick confused the men for he was finding rest in God. Since that day people have celebrated in many ways in his honor. Although, the celebration that we have always done, is not the celebration. Ireland originally started with going to a church service in the morning and ending with a large feast. All pubs were to be closed down on this day because drinking was banned until later years. America soon changed the tradition, many years later when they sent a parade through Boston in 1737. Ireland heard about it shortly after, and was quite curious. Another parade took place in New York City a few years later. Many immigrants from Ireland came to the U.S. to see it for themselves, and partake in the activities. The people brought back the celebrations of drinking and parades back to Ireland, changing the way they pay tribute to Patrick
