On a daily basis we face numerous decision on whether to purchase a product or do something. The various situations can come from daily interactions with other people, online, television, email, magazines, and the list can go on. Some of the products that are presented to us are dismissed without hesitation, versus other products or/ requests are persuasive enough to convince us to buy a specific brand or commit to a donation, service, etc. While observing various advertisements from television, internet, and magazines, each advertisement had a particular audience in mind for their product or request to do something. The organizations, or companies use tactics to grab the audience attention and convince the target audience that what they are …show more content…
Another example of social influence used in advertisements can be seen through St. Jude’s persuasive ads and commercials. St. Jude’s advertisements use various strategies in persuading audiences to donate to their cause. They attempt to persuade the audience by giving targeted audience high motivation and ability to consider the message they are trying to convey. St. Jude portrays ill children who need the help of financial donors. This creates deep processing because of the emotional, innocent, and heartbreaking stories of children’s illness (lecture, 3/ 15/2016). The outcome of St. Jude’s advertisements is remember-able and lasting ads because of the personal, and quality of their message. Playing on people’s emotions is a way St. Jude tries to influence to donate to their hospital. Asch’s Research is a great example of how conformity is lived out in society, the research study how the conclusion of Asch’s research was that when people are surround by a strong group consensus they will follow the group even if they think the group is wrong (lecture, 3/15/16). The commercials and ads for St. Jude present a group of powerful and authority figures to persuade audiences that donating will change lives. Celebrities are majority of the ones that are representing St. Jude and asking to donate to the cause.
