My family moved to Meridian, MS from California when I was around six or seven years old. Since then, all the way up to the ninth grade, my mother took my sister and me to Saint James A.M.E. Church for Sunday services. One Sunday, a cousin of mine brought me along to the service of her new church, and ever since then I have been attending New Freedom Tabernacle. I have found that NFT has certain qualities about it that have always attracted my attention in ways that St. James could not; so, I became an official member of NFT within a few months of the switch. St. James and NFT are two very separate, distinct churches in a multitude of ways, yet they also carry certain traits that make them very similar.
Saint James African Methodist Episcopal Church is one of many A.M.E. churches, which is a denomination that has derived from Methodism. This church is very structured, following certain practices and ceremonies such as having pastors rotate out of the church on a certain schedule, communion, and more.

James, I was a lot younger than I am now. In my immaturity, I didn’t find as much interest in church. While this was in part from ADHD, I also found myself tending to fall asleep from listening to pastors drone on and on in a monotone voice. Now, I am able to pay more attention and enjoy services because I am older and can appreciate more things. However, there is still a clear difference in these services. At St. James, the pastors are all older men who have no energy, and seem to cough and spit into the microphone about unknown subjects. Conversely, my pastor at NFT is a very energetic young man in his early thirties who runs around the church, jumps on pews, reenacts things from certain experiences, and tells personal stories and encounters to capture the attention of the audience in a pleasing and meaningful way. This difference is the largest between these two churches and was the deciding factor when it was time for me to find my new

If zombies did happen to come to St.Labre, first I would go and find a knife or something to protect myself with while I try and get to a safe and secure spot with food, water, and shelter then i would grab all my friends that weren’t zombies and I would go over to the spot that would keep us safe and fed. If zombies were to attack St. Labre while we were in school this is what i would in a few short sentences but continue on to read and i will tell you more. I have always loved these doors. I think they are a fun example of late Medieval art trying to revive an old tradition. They are impressively large like many artworks of the Roman period, but the craftsmenship still shows the artist is squarly in the Medieval tradition of depicting people and buildings without regards to perspective and proportion. Bishop Bernward had traveled to Rome and saw a set of wooden doors at St. Sabina, which date to ca. 430-32.…

St. John Chrysostom was known for his ability of articulating the church’s teaching and being the archbishop of constantinople. Although being a great preacher and church leader, his title and authority soon became his worst enemy which lead to his exile and soon after death. When Chrysostom grew up he began to study law yet decided it was not his passion and persuaded theology instead. You would never think that the celebrity St. Paul could perform miracles but this week he did! St. Paul, chief speaker, was in Lystra, a city in central Anatolia, when he saw a man who was lame and had never walked. St. Paul was preaching like normal and this man was listening to him. In the middle of preaching, St. Paul looked directly at him and saw that he had enough faith to be healed. So he called out and said “Stand up on your feet!”…

I definitely felt a connection with the members because we all shared similar views. There was nothing truly different in our beliefs. The pastor was very relatable in his examples. He made sure he used experiences people understand and related it to the passages in the bible. To answer my initial question, a non-denominational church does have differences when compared to a Haitian Baptist church.…

My overall experience at True Bible was one that I will always remember and keep close to my heart. I have never really exposed myself to people who are in a different position in their lives than I have been in. At my time at the church it has opened my eyes to see that the word of the lord can have different meanings for all of us. And those who are really struggling are doing their hardest to get out of the situation they are in by following the word and advice of God. Not only is the church a spiritual place, but also a community of friends and family, advisors, and counsel to help one find their way.…

I loved how the pastor and his family seem real and you can relate to them. One example I have is when my daughter went to church when she was in high school and I would tell her put the phone away. Then today at service, I see the pastor daughter on Facebook while her father is preaching and her mother beside her and she is on her phone as well during this time. She also has conversation with the other adults across the row and threw a piece of gum.…
