A school has many things to offer a student, whether it is a good education or just time away from home. Many students dedicate their time afterschool to extra-curricular activities, whether it is band, drama, sports or a national honor society of their favorite subject. For my extra-curricular activity I decided to dedicate my time to sports medicine. Sports medicine has taught me teamwork, leadership and respect.
The first part of managing an effective team is understanding the team’s processes, roles and behaviors. The team has many functions meaning there are many factors that can cause a team to become ineffective. Teamwork combines the skills and the creation of a diverse number of people in order to produce and effective outcome. Knowing the true meaning of teamwork is the first step in making a successful team which is a major part that I was missing from previous teams. Before joining sports medicine I was not much of a team player, I was out to satisfy my own needs by doing everything my way instead of doing it in a way that is best for the team overall.

Our society depends on the ability of our leaders and how well they can do their jobs. A leader is someone that many people look to for direction, guidance and inspiration, which makes it important for our leaders to have the aptitude to make difficult decisions and to be able to do what is right for the people. A higher authority is crucial for supervising and regulating others as well as being an example of a hard and dedicated worker. An effective leader has character, competence, compassion, and courage. The leader is at the center of the groups’ power structure; they keep the group together and infuse life into it, while helping the group achieve its goals.
