In the United states, participating in a sport is a typical childhood activity. Children of all ages participate whether it be through their school or a local recreation group. By playing a sport, children can develop positive character traits that can help them later on in life that include, being responsible, learning how to work with others and focusing on whatever they are assigned to do.
One of the main things sports can teach is being responsible because if you are not responsible, there is and will be someone there to take your place. Being in any sport requires attending practice, games, and whatever else is asked of you. If you show up late or unprepared too many times, you get kicked off the team and replaced by someone who can be depended on. Coaches try to teach this by constantly reminding you that in the real world nobody cares why you can not do something, you just get let go and replaced. In sports you always know who is the best or what team is the best in the area. This can cause you or your team to feel inferior to everyone else's if they are at the bottom of the charts. Another negative would be being humiliated from a mistake made at a crucial moment that would lead to others being disappointed or mad with you. Causing a lack of self esteem which leads to another problems attributed to playing sports such as aggression and arrogance.
In conclusion, playing a sport has many pros and cons. You can lose self esteem or become arrogant.
