In “Spirit of Beethoven” Vladimir Kush has distorted the painting with an exaggeration of different elements making it appear different from what it really is. He illustrates a whirlwind with the mask of the composer that is picking us pages of music from the ground. The painting is built with contrasts where Kush “combines two spaces, the lyrical space of powerful nature and the theatrical space, which end us being the “space of Beethoven”” ("Vladimir Kush- Art of Imagination"). A really important detail in the painting is the use of the whirlwind and Beethoven’s face instead of the moon. In this case, Beethoven’s face is symbolizing the shining moon. It is a technique where an object, person, situation, event, etc. has a deeper meaning than its literal one. One example is Edgar Allan Poe’s narrative poem “The Raven”. Filled in figurative language, it is hard to understand the message Poe is trying to transmit to the reader. This poem gives a picture of a man who is at home at night and is feeling depressed because, Lenore has died. However, the narrator does not describe Lenore and does not state the relationship between her and the man. All we know from the storyline of the poem is that the man misses her and since there are no more details we could say that she may be a symbol of a wife, of love, beauty and optimism. The most evident symbol in the poem is the title. The raven is a dark symbol that represents death and loss. There are many other ideas presented in the poem which are symbols of gods, death, etc. and all of them can be interpreted in different ways by people depending on their perspective.
