To complete this project, I first had to ask my parent to take me for a twenty minutes drive on the street. As a passenger, I first had to record the initial odometer reading and then for every two minutes, I ask the driver for the exact speedometer reading and record my data on the sheet. Other than recording the speedometer, I also took notes on the speed of the car such as flow of traffic, stoplights, and stop signs. This process continue until the twenty minutes interval is up and I then record the final odometer reading. …show more content…
Take the width and multiple by the five average and add them up to get the Midpoint sum. I then divide the sum by 60 since there is 60 minutes in an hour to get my mile. The result show that my approximate distance traveled is 17.033 miles while my odometer reading difference was 16 miles, this mean that my estimate was not exact.
The speed vs. time graph show a constant speed from 0-10 minutes until the line shift a little toward mid 40 at the 12 minutes mark and then pick up again and remain constant from 14-20 minutes. The result differed due to the inconsistent movement of traffic between intervals.
After my calculation, I find that my approximate distance traveled does not match with the difference between the two odometer readings. The reason they were not similar is because at 12 minute I was stuck behind a big truck so it kind of mess up the average speed. As a result my estimate was a little inaccurate. I think that in order to make them exact, I should have driven on the freeway where there is less traffic and frequent slowing down so that my average speed is constant and he approximate distance travel is more
