At the camp, the interns were a one-on-one buddy for the campers during two, two-week sessions, helping the campers through activities and speech therapy. For each session, I was able to work with two teenagers who both had diagnosis of Autism and from this experience, I learned so much more than I could ever learn in a classroom. The most influential aspect I learned was how much learning and progressing these children can receive just through the daily dose of language. The children made progress within those two weeks mainly through interacting with other children and their camp buddies. I admire this type of therapy and learning, communication can and is used throughout the activities we do in our everyday life. Perhaps this is the best way for children to learn and work on goals, depending on the child’s needs, the best way for therapy as opposed to one on one drill therapy. I believe Syracuse University will aid in the development of my personal scope of practice with the wide arrange of professors and specific research facilitates to speech. I am particularly excited and interested in the wide range of possible clinical placements and externships which will also benefit in determining where I’d like to continue in my career, whether that be the hospital, schools, nursing homes
