I. I would like to start my speech by telling all of you a story about a woman named Poppy Wyatt.
A. She works as a bank clerk for years until one day, she lost her job. Her income become unstable for the first time in her life and Poppy needs to cut back her spending because she didn’t has any saving in her bank account. Poppy also do not have any family members or friends to borrow any money. She didn’t even have any money to eat and has to walk from one place to another searching for a job. Imagine ladies and gentlemen, if you are in her place that doesn’t even have money to eat?
II. I never believed that saving money is crucial until I came across this story.

However, a survey made by GoBankingRates among the Americans revealed that 14% of them have 10 000 dollar or more, 5% of them have 5000 dollar to 9999 dollar, 10% of them have 1000 dollar to 4999 dollar, 13% of them have less than 1000 dollar, 9% of them only have the minimum balance requirement and almost half of them does not have a saving which is 21% of them does not have a saving account and 28% of them have no money saved.
1. This indicates that not everyone knows the important of saving money.
IV. Even though, money is vital in our daily life, we must save some of it because saving money is very important, therefore we need to know how to save money smartly or face the consequences.

An impulse spending is an unplanned decision made to buy a product before making a purchase.
i. Impulsive spending can be avoided by making a grocery list and stick to it. ii. In an article of My Money Coach, a study from the University of Pennsylvania shows that those who can escape impulse spending can save up to 23% on their grocery bills.
III. What will happen if you don’t save?
A. As I mentioned earlier, you won’t know what will happen in the future.
1. You can experience unexpected events like losing job or have a serious health issue where you need to buy expensive medicine.
2. When the bills started to pile up and we don’t have any saving, we will figure out the simplest way to gain money which is borrowing money from the banks or worst, from the loan sharks and found yourself in debt.

In a Malaysian Kini article in May, Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency (CCDMA) found that 23% of the Malaysians which is 20 886 people have debt because of poor financial management, 20% because of high medical expenses, 1% because of failure in investment or loss of breadwinner, 15% because of business performance or business failure, 11% because of credit card debt, 10% because of loss of employment and 19% because of other miscellaneous
