Course Reflection
1. After taking the course Speech 301 during spring semester of 2017, I have learned that before any speech is presented it first needs to go through a process of constructing it, which takes time and effort. But that’s not all, it takes research, creativity, and practice to prepare and deliver a good speech. You need to get the audience attention before even telling then what your speech is about. After you start delivering the speech it is also important to keep the audiences attention throughout the whole speech such as, keep them interested, entertained, or in a suspense. I’ve also learned that all of the speeches that I delivered meant something to me. My first hero speech was about my brave and talented mother who means

Class participation is not just constructing speeches and presenting them. It also requires coming in to class on days that you don’t have to present. Supporting classmates with just being present and being interested in their speeches, because we know we want everyone else to do the same for us. Also, helping and supporting each other is another definition for class participation. Coming into class on days we don’t want to, or think, “I don’t need to come in to class today. I can just do it myself or follow the schedule.” Even though there might not be any new information in class it is helpful to show up to class. The more we miss the more behind we get and don’t continue going as fast as the class is. Which will put us behind and can hinder our speech development and presentation. I believe I participated in class discussions, group work, and just showing up to class when I didn’t feel like. Coming to class on days I didn’t have to present my speech, and supporting my peers with my presence and …show more content…
When professor Coach Austin presented our next speech topic, which was persuasive I wasn’t sure what topic to pick for this speech. My previous speech was informative about cancer. I tried to expand it and make it persuasive but I wasn’t feeling a strong connection to it. That’s when I started sorting out in my head different events, why they’re important to me and why do I want to share it with the class. As a medical assistant who worked in Internal Medicine and at rehab for drugs and alcohol I had many stories that came to mind. But from all these stories one stood out to me; it involved an infant. This event occurred when I worked as a Medical Assistant at Internal Medicine. I knew the mother because she would see the doctor I worked for and the same doctor also saw the infant. When I was remembering this story and jotting down the main details I had chills all over my body. Each time I thought about it I got chills going through my whole body. I couldn’t come around how everything turned out. Knowing that the mother had many chances to change her and the infant’s lifestyle. But without taking any actions the mother ended up losing her child. Child protective services took the child away. When I was preparing this speech I wanted everyone to know how secondhand smoke affects infants, children’s, as well as adults. I wanted my peers to be informed and aware of the consequences that can happen. I wanted them to share this with their friends and family members. Even if

Amanda Wilson Professor Leightenheimer English 1102-01 23 October 2017 Role and Pathos: How Eugene Debs Creates Relatability Crafting and reciting a speech can be an incredibly difficult requirement. The main difference between these and, for example, an essay, is that enunciation and delivery can make or break a speech. With this addition also comes extra importance on understanding and reading the responses of your audience to gauge effectiveness. Speeches need to have a form of an emotional pull to them, or else they sort of inadvertently transition to lectures rather than a form of persuasion. Actions can still be carried out in more logically oriented speeches, but that passion to push someone could be lost.…

The informative speech I gave on Wednesday about “GM Foods” did not go better than I expected that I could have done because I felt time pressure to organize a verbal outline as closer to written outline. On the topic “GM Foods”, my rhetoric was mainly to inform audiences about negative impact of GM foods on human health. The most difficult part of this informative speech for me is the topic selection. Going through the struggle of finding the topic of large public/audiences interest which can lead to audience inclusion and positive public discourse, I finally found the topic of public concerns/interest but doing research on the topic found all controversial proposition and opposition to the arguments of positive and negative impacts of GM…

Rhetorical Speech Reflection Rhetorical techniques within my speech were subtle yet still managed to enhance the message I was trying to convey; that all firearms should be banned in the United States. I used a combination of rhetorical techniques including; anaphora, hypophora, a mild chiasmus, alliteration, and sententia. Halfway through my speech, I used anaphora when I was describing the different reasons people have for owning guns. This particular method was helpful because I wanted to portray the reasons as ridiculous and repetitive, which paired well with anaphora, since it added to the redundancy with its own repeating sentence beginnings.…

One main thing this chapter talks about is how to form a introduction. The first thing you have to do is to get the audience's attention. Sometimes this is called a hook ,which is made to grab the audience's attention so they will listen to what you have to say. When creating my informative speech, I had to determine when I was presenting this information too which in the case is will be my professor. Then I decide what presentation to use, which in this case this is an informative speech. Before I started, I needed to create a delivery outline for my speech. When creating this outline, I had to think on how to communicate the ideas by trying to convince the audience on how to create and present an informative speech does not take as much time as they think it does. I also had to think about the duration on how much time I have to present my outline speech to the audience, which in this case would be 3-5 minutes long.…

A good speech can leave a positive impact on the listener. This is true for many great speeches such as the Gettysburg Address, President Reagan's Challenger Speech, and John F. Kennedy’s inaugural address. All three of these speeches come at a time of despair in America. Abraham Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address during the Civil War. Reagan gave his State of the Union Address the same day the U.S. Space Shuttle, the Challenger, exploded.…
