A significant amount of emphasis is placed on what the child gains from being spanked on a deeper and more meaningful level when parents do follow healthy guidelines. Children learn that they must be responsible for their actions. By asking them why they made the choice that they did, they have to own up to their mistakes and eventually admit and come to the realization that what they did was wrong. Along with this, once what was done wrong is recognized by the child, sincere remorse follows. While this sounds burdensome and heavy, it’s part of learning.…

I don’t believe that spanking teaches a child to be aggressive. As we had discussed in class, family violence can cause elevated stress in the child and can result in long term emotional and behavioral functioning. But the disciple I received from my adoptive parents was totally different. I would only ever get spanked if I had ever done something I wasn’t supposed to do. My siblings and I were all spanked as children, and non of us have ever been aggressive towards each other, our parents, or others.…

Spanking shows that “stronger” is right. When you use physical punishment to show a child that they did something wrong, you are sending the unintended effect of a message that whomever is bigger and stronger decides what’s right. Does this mean your child can control what’s right when he or she becomes stronger than you? Spanking demonstrates that older people have a right to hit younger people, sending the message that older, bigger people have the right to smaller people. This is especially confusing when you’re disciplining a child for hitting…

Parents have to be cautious when disciplining their children to avoid trouble. Unfortunately, there is not a set behavior that warrants a spanking. Some sources say that it is okay to spank because it aids in building a strong relationship of respect with the parent and child, and it results in well-mannered children and adults. Parents also say that it is normal to spank children and that it is just disciplinary actions (“The Spanking Debate” 1).…

One person had to be in the psychology field, the other person could be whoever else. The psychological expert I interviewed was Nicole Olivas, the non-psychological expert that I choose to interview was my fiancé, Casey, mostly because I was very curious about his views on the matter, and if they aligned with my personal views. Nicole mostly talked about the results of the research that had been done on the matter of spanking children.
