I am mainly interested in the position of president because learning Spanish and the surrounding culture has taught me so much about acceptance, hard work, and commitment. I want to continue expanding these qualities in club members with my leadership skills to guarantee Spanish Honor Society’s success in Dawson and our community. My backup role would be vice president.
I believe a leader’s most important task is to be a good example for the group, listen to everyone’s ideas, and regulate tasks according to the groups’ strengths. We could pick an appropriate Spanish movie that highlights a Spanish-speaking country’s culture to play for not only our members, but also for all Spanish students, even those at the junior highs. This would be an opportunity to promote our club to future members and for students to improve their comprehension skills. The event could take place in the LGI with popcorn or other traditional snacks. Furthermore, I want to establish a more organized system of tutoring that matches a committed Spanish Honor Society member with a Dawson Spanish student. Spanish teachers would tell their classes that if desired, a student could have a SHS tutor. Then, we would provide a SHS tutor that would plan out a schedule to meet the student at school. They would work on homework or double-check a student’s project/presentation. Having a consistent SHS tutor would build students’ confidence in Spanish while alleviating a busy teacher. The SHS tutors would also have to be properly screened to ensure the member knows the material and does not blatantly complete a student’s work for them. SHS tutors would also encourage students to continue taking higher-level classes, such as Spanish 3 or 4, by sharing their positive personal experiences. It will be more impactful coming from a fellow student. Overall, Spanish Honor Society members can be role models for all Spanish students with more involved
