The proposed research was used to test whether students performed and memorized poorly or greatly depending on their environment. A group of students were split into three even groups. Each group took a test on their Spanish class material. One group the test in a completely silence environment. The second group took the test in an environment that played classical music in the background. The third group took the test in the middle of their university, amongst their peers. Results showed that the group that performed poorly was the third group. The second group performed better than the first because there was classical music playing in the background. The first 150 students to sign up for the experiment will be granted extra credit points for their class. This will prevent those who like the Spanish class more, from taking all the spots available in the experiment. The selected 150 students will join in the class to count off what group they will be in. Each student will be randomly placed in one of three groups.
Materials
Once the students are placed in their groups, they will be asked to answer yes or no to one question. The question will ask if they enjoy taking the current Spanish class. Three different areas will be needed to place each student in their noise level environment. Each student will be provided one test and pencil in order to complete the test. Two other teachers will be used so each group of students has a proctor present.
