A dangerous and stupid game that can result in severe injuries or even death, the Independence School District experienced it firsthand with some of the students. It is called the Space Monkey Challenge, but it has also been called the Choking Game. Why do kids do it? They play this game because they do not have to use alcohol or drugs to achieve similar affects.
Ariah Rand, a seventh grader, had no idea what she was getting herself into when she agreed to play it. As a result of this game, she passed out for more than 30 seconds on the floor of the locker room. When the game begins, a person will bend over breathe in 20 times. She did not realize that when restricted her chest movement that she would black out. In fact, she blacked out for 30 seconds after the accident. When she got up, she felt a weird tingling in her hands and cold. She could not remember anything that took place. According to United States Disease Control and Prevention, a severe neurological injury or even death can occur as a result of playing this game. Ariah visited the doctor, and luckily, she was okay afterwards. Ariah has stated that her peers have started to bully her for telling people about this troubling trend.
According to authorities, this game can even lead to brain injury. Another game to be aware of is known as the fire challenge, which has similarities to the pass-out game. In this game, teens douse their chests with rubbing alcohol or another flammable liquid and set themselves ablaze. While the participants are seeking an adrenaline rush, 14-year-old Michael Symonette from Crosby, Texas, had suffered third-degree burns because of this challenge. He ran into the shower, but he could not put himself out faster enough. Another 15-year-old from Lexington, Kentucky, suffered similar
