For the past year, I could only provide an indefinite answer to a frequently asked question, How was your freshman year? In fact, those of us who experienced our freshman year could be addressed as “college veterans” will never initiate a conversation with regard to the past year. Perhaps they consider that the freshman year was not as consummate as they initially planned. I cannot judge my first year in college was successful or frustrating, but I feel I benefited from the meritorious experiences and practical knowledge gained from my college life. In my opinion, no matter what goals one wishes to achieve in college, whether its grade, love, health, or sense of accomplishment, one has to be prepared for both failures and…

Whether I progressed or regressed was the question. I had always felt as if I was in the wrong setting. This perspective has changed, the mindset has as well. As a junior, I’ve felt the progression mentally as I continue to bloom into a young adult.…

In middle school, I opted not to take Spanish, which is why I was inadequately prepared to reach my teacher’s level of expectation as freshman in IB Spanish. When my teacher instructed in Spanish, I would quickly glance around the room to see what the knowledgeable Spanish speakers were doing. Beyond the embarrassment of not understanding, I was not accustomed to being behind my fellow students. This persisted throughout my freshman and sophomore years as it showed through my Spanish grades, which I was not accustomed to receiving because in every other course, I grasped the lesson effortlessly.…

It was at this time that Spanish changed for me because I was going to learn how to read, write and speak this language more fluently. It’s the first day of school and I’m already in my second class of the day which was Spanish level 1 and 2 for beginners. The class room is over its capacity because there are roughly about 10 students without seats so they have to sit on the floor. The first week of school was pretty simple in this class mostly just introduction and having to write a few made up stories.…

Sophomore year has been an interesting year so far. The first day I walked into AP World History (aka WHAP) confident, but slightly nervous for the workload to come. The first semester of my freshman year at Otay Ranch High School went very well as I learned three major things that will help me this next semester. First of all, I learned the importance of not procrastinating on doing my work for classes. Second of all, I learned that some bad things will happen that can lead to worse in classes. Third of all, I learned that having fun in classes made the subject more likeable and allowed me to learn more. To begin with, I learned the importance of not procrastinating.…

The memory still lingers in my mind of when I walked into the enormous unfamiliar halls of my new high school for the first time. So many useless things had been said by everyone with regards to Freshman year, most of which were what seemed like cliche over exaggerated horror stories. Typical upperclassmen pranks played out on the incoming freshmen. As bogus as it may sound, I have been so gullible that I believed every word of every story anybody would tell me. It was to be expected that I would go into my first day of “official school”, anticipating complete torment.…

Everyone can agree Junior Year was hard, and most people associate it with stress. The exams, the grades, the clubs, the sports; Life becomes chaotic easily. But if I had to describe Junior year in only 2 words, I would say “new experiences.” Like Dimmesdale who let the fear of becoming disreputable come in the way of his love, I used to be controlled by fear; declining to make memories because I was afraid of getting in trouble or getting hurt. In 7th grade we had a class called project adventure in which we got to zip line and do other similar activities.…
