At the age of 12, Sophia Calderwood witnessed the hanging of Nathan Hale, a patriot spy. This is the event that changed her life and made her want to stand up and fight for what she believed was right. When the British soldiers showed up at Sophia’s door, her mother had to lie and say they were loyalists in order to keep the family safe. The soldiers believed her and said that a soldier would be sent to live with them for a short amount of time and that they needed to be prepared for his arrival. A day or so later a soldier with the name of John Andre moved into the Calderwood home and Sophia found herself quickly falling for him. Sophia then begins searching for her brother who she believes was taken prisoner by the British, she finds him in a sugarhouse where they’re holding hundreds of rebels. She promises that she will find a way to get him out and turns to John Andre …show more content…
The death of William devastated Sophia and her parents, but Sophia pledged to avenge his death and to never lose hope in the patriot cause. Three years later, Sophia is working at Mr.Gaines Print shop when she is approached by Robert Townsend who offers her a way to help in the war. He tells her that they are in need of information and that if she were to become a spy, it would greatly benefit the patriots. After some hesitation, Sophia agrees to help Mr. Townsend by working as a house servant at the British Headquarters. Sophia is both excited and nervous to be working as a spy because she still remembers that Nathan Hale was hung for being one. When she arrives at the house she sees that John Andre works there as well and that he has gone from a soldier to a higher ranking. She realizes that if she is going to find any information she will have to look in his office because it seems like he is the one in
