Sound, many times, is proven to “take over” the other four senses such as when you are driving with the radio on and have to turn it down to properly navigate. Studies show that listening to music can slow the process of any other cognitive activity. Therefore, sound can literally “take over” the other senses in an overpowering manner. The author also came to the discovery that sound is such a broad topic that it opens the idea to a new dynamic way of thinking. While at a DJ Reggae Sound system dancehall event, Henriques remarks on thinking through sound. This is unfamiliar from our regular basis of thinking which is visual based. He claims that the multi-media apparatus with different frequencies and waveband bring a unique multi-sensory feel of the music and challenges us to consider thinking through sound where sound may indeed replace sight as the chief sensory mode. The selector, or DJ, is the crewmember who chooses what music track should be played next and must maintain the rhythms rolling while also adding their own style of sounds to the track as well. The selector is able to do this fluidly with their skills they must possess. The largest skill they must possess knowledge over is their decision making skills and their ways of knowing which track needs to be played next in order to keep the rolling rhythms. That would be the perspective of the selector. The audience on the other hand sees the selector focused on the “re-performance” of the featured music track. They see his/her job as the recreator of the already existing original recording. Juggling is a musical skill involving transitioning from one song (selection) to the next selection in a smooth, unnoticed manner. Juggling is primarily the job of the selector as they are responsible for the evenings music flow. Juggling is a skill that can take years of experience to develop but the good selectors juggle with style and minimal effort by fading in one song from another with additional added vibes to assist the transition process. The good juggler's efforts make for an enjoyable musical event as tunes are transitioned throughout the night in a practiced manner and to the enjoyment of the audience. I believe the author considers
