The previous research predicted that women would be willing to change their last names than first names. However, men would not want to change their last names than first names. The reason, women are willing to change their name is to show committee when she gets married. It symbolizes a new identity within the marriage as a new start. However, when the women is divorced, she views her maiden name as a revive self for the better of her life. It is extremely rare that a man will change their last name, which might be passed down to their child. Additionally, in a Japanese participant research they chose the letter of their name rather than any other letter in the alphabet. For example, the participants were 91 undergraduate students, in detail, 21 unmarried men and 70 unmarried women. In addition, the age ranges from 17 to 23. Majority of the participant races were either, White, Asian or Hispanics. Additionally, the materials of the research were a survey, IAT and a SuperLab. The survey and IAT measure the participant’s attitude toward their names either implicitly or explicitly. In fact, the survey were a strongly agree or strongly disagree type of question and answer. On the other hand, the IAT used grouping words, such as, wonderful, horrible, etc. Also, SuperLab measure their reaction time to view their letter of the name. In addition, the producers consist of going through the materials, including, the survey, IAT and SuperLab. Later, the participants engaged in a debriefing.
