It’s been years since the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the world has been the target for global organized crimes and criminal activities from Russia and other Soviet countries such as Ukraine. Solntsevskaya Brava the organized criminal group that is based in Solntsevo, located in southwest of Moscow in Russia. This group was founded by Sergei Mikhailov “Mikhas”. Mikhas was born 1958 in Russia. He liked to call himself “businessman instead of thief Mikhas”. Following his time in prison for insurance fraud in 1984, he was joined by his former prison inmate Victor Averin (Karabo, P3). FBI are working hard to combat these type crimes. They have built ways to combat international organized crime groups including building relationships with other countries. The FBI stated that they most effective way to fight international crime is by building investigator-to-investigator and prosecutor-to-prosecutor bridges between American law enforcement and overseas counterparts. This method will help them pursuit and investigate the crime that happen overseas and be able to prosecute them under the agreement. Without these relationship, the FBI believe that there would be no other way investigate and prosecute crimes that are occurring or have roots in the other country (Ashley, 2003). This create the process to of having the people associated with the crime investigated for crime that they might case in another country while still living in their territory. Drug trafficking is what most people know about international crime. According to International Criminal Police Organization also known as INTERPOL, the Russian Solntsevskaya Brava is actively trafficking drugs in Mexico. It was also reported that they are the main “masterminds” or organizers alongside Italian criminal groups for other groups who are interested in moving drugs from Latin America. The Solntsevskaya have a huge base in Mexico according to INTERPOL as they are associated with arms trafficking, RN smuggling, and among the big names in drug trafficking. The structure of the Solntsevskaya is no different to other organized crime groups. It does have a sort of hierarchy that start with key authorities within the group, but as the whole group, they function as a flexible network with members allocated in different areas around the world. Those authorities are divided in different areas and tasks that will make the group more effective and also safer from law enforcement.
