Health and Society Essay Sociological imagination is a theory which is developed by a sociologist named C.Wright Mills. Sociological imagination is the relationship between one’s personal experience and the society that he or she lives in. In another word, it is the effect that one person in a society has upon the whole society itself. I am Vietnamese and being raised in an Asian family has a lot of effects on my health outcomes. I was born and raised in Vietnam so most of my health care experiences come from traditional or methods that was passed on from previous generations. When I was little going to a doctor for any health concerns was a rare case. I remember whenever I get sick, my mom mostly give me some over the counter medications or just home remedies such as hot lemon water, or ginger tea to help me feel better. It works at the time, but as I grow up and go to school, I realize that some diseases could be deadly and need to be treated by a doctor. Now as I moved to America, I see that people go to doctor just for simple things such as cold or flu. It’s good that people take good care of their health …show more content…
I think this is very true. All of these conditions has a strongly effect on one’s health. In a bigger picture, it means that all of these conditions can affect everyone in a society and vise versa, which links to sociological imagination. She brings up the idea of health equity, which is the principle that everyone should have equal opportunity to seek healthcare when they need. Her recipe for health equity are: research, education, collaboration, initiative, public health policy, and empathy to empower. These are very strong key points to better shape the health care system in general and to help everyone with every race, culture, and socioeconomic
