I believe its a movement to minimize the violence that faces todays society. In the “Wizard of Oz” Dorthy, closes her eyes and clicks her heals. Society has demanded a certain type of law enforcement, therefore, society deserves the “Bad Guys” that they get. These fallacies, such as, crime has decreased, society is safer, over militarization of our law enforcement, lack of gun control. Refusing to acknowledge the truth will not help the situation, moreover, blaming any increase of violence on police brutality or lack of gun control is absurd. Washington D.C. created a ban on handguns in 1975,

As history has shown us, homicide in the United States is a differing matter than that of Europe. In Erick Monkkonen’s article, Homicide: Explaining America’s Exceptionalism, it is stated that one big difference between the two is their contrast in crime rates. Data shows that as Europe has experienced a decline in homicide and stabilization has occurred, the United States has had an increase in in murder occurrences. There is currently no explanation as to why these two nations experiences such a stark difference in homicide rates. When compared with other countries, the United States actually has murder rates similar to the poorest nations in the world.…

The article I read for the argument analysis project is titled “Stronger gun laws will save lives” by Christine Watkins. The broad issue about this article is there are loopholes allowing someone to purchase a handgun without documenting the transaction. According to the author that’s how many firearms end up being sold to felons or people who aren’t allowed to own firearms. The author’s research states that 400,000 gun crimes are committed every year. The broad issue in this article is many laws are trying to be passed in order to remove handguns off of the market.…

Pro gun control lobbyists are influencing citizen’s minds by putting the notion into people's head that fewer guns increase safety. Where is the social logic in this? What about the statistical logic? A well known and credible source, the NRA-ILA has data that shuts down gun control activists, saying, “Since 1991, when violent crime hit an all-time high, the nation’s violent crime rate and its murder rate have decreased by more than half, as Americans have acquired over 170 million new guns, roughly doubling the number of privately owned guns in the United States”(NRA-ILA).…

Background checks are an integral piece of an efficient and effective system for gun control. These precautionary checks often focus on targeting individuals with restraining orders, fugitive statuses, and mental illnesses - a strategy that, according to (IDENTIFY) Bisakha Sen and Anantachia Panjamapirom, has historically helped lower overall homicide rates in states that check for such criteria. However, the recent alarming increase (ADD STATS) in gun related crimes, especially among already convicted felons, is a primary indicator that expansion and uniformity in the quantity and quality of background checks remains necessary. Background checks also significantly decrease the likelihood of unregistered firearms being dispersed among the general…

The Broken Windows Theory, first introduced in 1982, asserts that disorder and crime are connected and that disorder can negatively impact society, leading to a high incidence rate of crimes, both misdemeanors and felonies. Through order-maintenance policing, disorder can be controlled, creating a safe and orderly atmosphere, instilling trust between law enforcement and civilians, and the crime rate can be maintained at a low rate. While there is evidence that correlation between Broken Windows policing and crime may be more coincidental, it has been asserted that law enforcement feel that the theory presented by Wilson and Kelling is workable and precisely describes the preferred method of urban jurisdiction maintenance. According…

The logic behind crime prevention is clear. Preventing crime is to prevent everything that follows the crime as well.…
