Social Work Theory Reflection

This class has been a great experience for me and the most important thing that I learned in class came from the young adulthood, middle adulthood, and late adulthood interviews. Linking the interviews with the person I interviewed with the theories related to that age had help me become aware of how I will use these theories in practicing social work in all areas. Now that I am aware of the theories I seek out the person I am working with the past history of their life from childhood to now. Each human experience is different and important to know when working with an individual. For example, in the middle adulthood interview, Shawn had a good relationship with his children that were very important to him. This stage of Erik Erikson’s life span theory of generativity verses stagnation he was able to produce generativity by enjoying and being a parent. According to Hutchinson (2015), generativity is the ability to transcend personal interests to provide care and concern for younger and older generations. I have really enjoyed and learned more in this class than the first human behavior class. The discussion boards give me the opportunity to read other students understanding of the material as well as being able to respond to their posts. I have learned more critical thinking skills in the material offered, such as the interviews, discussions, jeopardy, quizzes, and signature assignment. I feel that the content doesn’t need to be changed. I really appreciate all the feedback from you, Joy, as we didn’t get any feedback or discussions from our human behavior class from last semester.
