During this week’s assignment I found the interview of Dr. Allen Frances was very interesting. Being in the Human Services program here at SCC and wanting to become a social worker I have been told that I need to be familiar with the DSM-5. I definitely agree with him that normality is difficult to define and it has become a cultural concept rather than a medical concept. Dr. Allen Frances states that our society is already immersed in pill popping which I didn’t find surprising at all. To be a professional social worker, I think the characteristics of leadership, cooperative and communication. In my secondary school life, being a head prefect allows me to have communication with other prefects, manage & lead the prefect to maintain school discipline in daily routine and in the event such as Sport Day. Life-History Interview Social workers use a collection of tools to assist in conducting a meaningful social assessment of elders by providing guided interviews with older adults. When planning for an interview a social worker would understand the time spent together, the reflection of their lives from a sociohistorical context, and social justice experiences by the elder over their lifetime. One of the positive aspects of reviewing and elder’s life come from weaving together the individual’s life. I feel like I am professionally ready for my senior year placement. I am looking forward to being able to spend much more time and actually see what a social worker does and interact with a social worker on a much different level than previous service learning’s. I believe that being able to interact with individuals at this last site will help me tremendously when it comes to interacting with clients and employees at my senior placement. Throughout this semester we have discussed and practiced various techniques that can be used when working with clients. This semester at Loyola has enhanced my understanding of what it truly means to be a social worker, from the classroom perspective. In my field placement, I do not believe it is directly related to social work, but I was able to use a social worker perspective when interacting with the children in the program. This course was the only course that provided me with hands-on experience of engaging with different types of clients. Introduction I had the pleasure to interview Mr. Daryl Hills. Mr. Daryl Hills was a long-term substitute counselor at Cone Elementary, during my first four months working there. I worked at Cone Elementary as a Tutor for AmeriCorps through Black Child Development Institute of Greensboro. He was one of the first employees I met Cone Elementary, when he discovered I was a graduate student at North Carolina A&T State University our interactions became more frequent.
