All the concepts and theories that I have learned in social psychology have thought me very well the understanding of human behavior. From the way they communicate to the way that they react. Humans are very complicated species yet very easy to put two and two together as to why and how they act the way they act. When thinking of all the theories I have learned so far in social psychology class, I can defiantly say that I can connect to them all in a way. The main components, that I found to be interesting and also very relatable to me is, the components that are dealing with attraction, social influence, and also stereotyping. Apparently from what I learned in class this has to do with the “social penetration theory” and also the “comparison level of alternatives” (CL ALT). I stayed around because of self-disclosure, I was vulnerable to him, I was an onion completely shredded. Also, physical intimacy took place, which is a very intimate moment in a relationship, because of this deep intimacy it made me become even more attached. Looking back to this three year, unhealthy relationship I noticed that my “CL Alt” was low and according to what I learned it was low enough that I stayed “If you’re dissatisfied, your CL Alt might still be low enough that you stay”(Day 15 Slide). I ended up leaving because my CL Alt increased. “If Cl Alt > current outcome you leave” and that’s exactly what …show more content…
Informational social influence is “conformity out of a desire to gain information”. One time while I was driving an accident had accord. It had been up to about 35 mins that I was stuck in traffic, I was becoming frustrated and not to mention I already had to be somewhere at a certain time. After a couple of minutes I started noticing everyone jumping a rail with their car to the other section of the road. All though it was completely illegal to do so, I panicked and did the same thing everyone else was doing. Not because I wanted to but “just because” everyone else did it and I was in a tricky

I was 10 years old. I looked from the edge of the mat, unaware about the endeavor I was about to take the moment my foot touched that mat. I finally decided to walk on, like they had taught me by bowing, it was the first of a near million times I was going to do this. I was a white belt, at the best taekwondo centers in the area. All the kids, stood to the side eerily silent, waiting for instructions.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

Road Test I had been waiting for this day all my life. After a year of driving with a permit, it was time to take my drivers road test to get my license. I ran to my mother’s room and told her to get ready we had to be at the DMV by 11:30 am. She checked the time and to her surprise it was only 9:00 am, which for me was late. After 10 minutes of annoying her, she crawled out of bed.…

Coming to Carleton in September I thought I had a decent grasp on general business know how and how business worked, but after taking this course I have learned how little I knew, and how much there was for me to learn. So far in the course I would say I have learned a ridiculous amount, from business language to the skills you need to have a successful interview. In this memo, I will be covering a number of lessons I have learned, and these fall into three categories. The first being what I learned from the course, mostly what I learned in lectures and doing Learnsmart questions. These lessons have been predominantly the knowledge I have acquired through the professor and the textbook.…

In just one day, you come into contact with more people than you can count. Your parents in the morning, you teachers at school, your friends during lunch, and everyone in between. From a sociological perspective, each one of these interactions determines who you are and who you become as a unique individual. If someone smiles at you, or laughs at your joke, you know you said something funny, or did something right. If you get a dirty look, or someone begins crying after you say something, you probably did something wrong.…

What I learned about myself is that I have potential for being a global manager. Looking over the questions, I tend to lack in my experiences more than my actual skills. What I’ve learned is that I can adapt quick and connect with people easily, but I don’t have many experiences in it. To widen my range of experiences I would most likely have to travel more and emerge myself directly into new cultures. I would also have to study different languages a bit more for that is an area I very much lack in.…
