Imagine waking up every morning and before even stepping foot out of your bed, the first thing that comes to your mind is “I wonder if she posted that picture on Instagram we took yesterday” so you reach for your phone and you check your “important apps” like Instagram, snapchat, twitter etc. So, does social media have a huge impact on your everyday life? Last week’s article of the week we read and discussed the article “Phone Fetish: how Snapchat is ruining your life and you’re to blame.” Technology has increased rapidly over a decade and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to stop anytime soon. The author argues that snapchat ruins your lives and you’re to blame. She states that we millennials have a “don’t care attitude” because we don’t care about consequences and we don’t care about what people think about us. The article “Head in the (Instagrammed) Clouds,” written by Isabel H. Evans, reminds us that life should not be controlled by technology. To introduce her idea, Evans talks about our necessity to get likes and shares on our posts and comments to make ourselves feel loved and warm. Next, Blackwell explained how we justify spending time plugged in because we either want to avoid doing something we don't like or we are trying to pass the time. Blackwell concludes by stating that we need to refocus our efforts on gaining accomplishments in real life that we can physically touch and see rather than attaining accomplishments through our…

Part A: Summary The opinion piece by Jenna Wortham “Turn Off the Phone (And the Tension),” is an article written to discuss the issue of this generation’s “need” to be connected to a smartphone. Wortham starts off by telling us about how it wasn’t until she unable to use a smartphone that she realized how much we are attached to our phones on a day to day basis. Therefore, as her first point on the topic, she mentioned how we are constantly worried about what we may be missing on social media for which the following, posting, viewing, commenting, and liking on others’ pictures and videos, is something that has become a huge part in our everyday lives. She also brings about the fact that “living an always-on digital life” with social media causes thrill and tension to those who use it.…

Numerous people spend an astounding amount of more than seventy hours a week on the internet or their phone (Dunn 80). That is an average of ten hours a day, which is more than most people sleep. Men use technology for two main reasons: to find information and for entertainment, while women, on the other hand, primarily use technology to take care of their social relationships (Kowalski). People often want to be seen as who they want to be, rather than who they really are, so they use social media to change and improve who they are. This can eventually cause people to try to alter themselves into the person they virtually created.…

Due to the fact, the world consists of so much technology and social media nowadays it makes it difficult to get away from the cell phone, which then makes it harder to enjoy the world’s beautiful creations that lie right in front of us. I believe that spending time outdoors really stretches the mind to think outside of the box and learn positive life lessons that can put an individual at ease. I also feel that developing relationships with others in a face-to-face manner is much more successful and meaningful rather than communicating or even meeting someone through social media. However, social media and messaging does make life fun as well as easier to show friends and family how life is going and by also providing a quicker/easier way to communicate with one another, though learning how to balance both aspects is important. You can’t always depend on technology nor should you just shut yourself out from the technology world because it is useful, but to manage the time and usage wisely between the two is what millennials need to understand and…

Posting for likes has gotten this generation to care more about the amount of likes obtained than cherishing the moments spent in life. How many times have we seen someone recording a fight instead of trying to stop the fight? How many times have we seen proposals for marriage or dating posted? This day in age, it’s really astonishing how much technology has grown in the amount of time we use it. In the dictionary, it defines disruptions as a “disturbance or problems that interrupt an event, activity, or process”. Although, a smartphone might not be a disruption in your life, it actually can be. Like the article states, people use smartphones to literally do everything to just go out to eat, from “dinner reservations; check in at the restaurant; take a picture of their food to share on Instagram; post on Twitter a joke they hear during the meal; review the restaurant on Yelp; then, finally, coordinate a ride home using Uber”. It’s really sad on how much we actually do use our devices.…
