Social contextual learning is informal, peer-to-peer, and it takes place spontaneously on an as needed basis (Noe, 2017). Employees have the capability to enhance the work atmosphere by sharing their knowledge of a subject, their wisdom, and experience on their present job. Most of the time training takes place face-to-face, coaching or through on the job training. Guided competency development is a broad set of competencies, skills for positions or the entire organization (Noe, 2017). There are various types of learning that take places such as on the job training (OJT), simulations and mobile learning. Employees have the capability to enhance the work atmosphere by sharing their knowledge of a subject, their wisdom, and experience on their present job. Guided competency development is a broad set of competencies, skills for positions or the entire organization (Noe, 2017). There are various types of learning that take places such as on the job training (OJT), simulations and mobile learning. On the job training would be acknowledged as one of the original methods of learning in the workplace. Both social contextual learning and guided competency development are learning techniques are valuable practices of training within an organization. With all the radical and major changes in the 21st, it is of the essence to have more than one resource available for the development and progression of staff members and for the success of the organization. Computers, iPhones, tablets and social media have allowed businesses the capability to train their employees externally and internally, minimize cost and maintain interaction with their peers through social media and blogs (Noe, 2017). Traditional training methods cannot be completely phased out. Learning can still take place within the classroom with an instructor and trainees. It is a fact that modern day technology has heightened delivery systems of training through virtual classrooms, videotaping or e-learning via the internet.
