The ability of a learner to become bilingual through L2 learning and acquisition however, is affected by criteria namely aptitudes, attitudes, orientations, proficiency, and motivation. Besides, learners with strong aptitude are expected to have better performance with proper orientation. Meanwhile, for learners with no aptitude, they still can have well performance through strong attitudes and motivation.
The present study uses the theory as one of the bases for ID's as the study tries to see the relation between learners' motivation levels in learning English with their language performance. The learners' most probably have different levels of motivations in learning English and the theory explains why such differences occur.
