In the project, I wrote about Snow White and her importance of hidden messages that we all don’t get to see at first. Indoor vs. Outdoor places a very important role in Snow White because Indoor spaces are represented as a woman’s sphere while Snow White is able to quickly clean up the messy dwarves house and while making dinner for them. In outdoor spaces Snow White has no control over her surroundings because she is attacked by forest creatures. This limits where men and women are able to succeed. While Disney demonstrates that males have control over the outdoor sphere and this is represented by the huntsman, the dwarves, and the prince. The male sphere encompasses the outdoors, where men have control of their surroundings. The men travel …show more content…
Meanwhile the Queen only falls further and further into a maddening pressure to stay young and beautiful. The face in the mirror appears with a male face and voice and actively encourages the Queen’s obsession with beauty. Rather than see herself through her own eyes, she perceives and personifies superficial flaws through the eyes of a male, which is also the male gaze. This is what drives her to murderous insanity that destroys her. Snow White’s beauty is so powerful, the Queen must kill her to become the most beautiful. This project is important to me because it shows how women were perceived as and how much society is influenced by this even till this day. The project as a whole has really opened up my eyes to seeing the message behind movies in a different perspective. For instance, it is obvious that Snow White is domesticated by the dwarves and has not much power besides her beauty. It is also noticeable how she waits along for Prince Charming to come find her then to come save her. Snow White almost seems useless by herself but what really struck out to me is how the whole story is driven by the magic mirror based on a male’s perpective. If it wasn’t for the magic mirror telling the Evil Queen that the fairest of them all is Snow White, none of her insanity would of happened. Also, the fact that Snow White can not literally
