In this case slavery was in the southern states and it was affecting the United States in a very negative way. Many children lost their parents or siblings because of slavery. Slavery in the southern states was not illegal at the time. Many farm owners had slaves in the southern states to help them work at their homes or plantations, because they can not do it by themselves. Slaves did not make any money, all of the money made goes to the owner of the plantation or home (“coming to America”). Slavery had a negative effect on the United States. The United States got economic power because of slavery (Kirwan). Because of slavery the United States now has a very bad history. Most African Americans ran away before the civil war because they knew that they might be made into a slave to help in the war. Keep in mind most farmers were poor at the time as well because they couldn't farm as much all by themselves. It would have been difficult to have the south develop as a part of America because of slavery which was illegal in America (Kirwan).
So in many ways slavery was a very bad thing because it basically started racism and judgment if it never started than today's world wouldn't be the same because sugar wouldn't have ever became a high priced cash crop and the land down south would still be all flat land and farmers down south would still work on farms or plantations for a living (Selfa). Slavery had a negative effect on the United States. Slavery should have never started because it hurt many families in many different ways and slavery affected our nation in a very negative way that nobody can
