1a. I do not think that slavery should be legal. When you enslave someone, you take away their humanity. They are humans who deserve to be treated as such. Slaves are treated as property and sometimes are not fed and clothed. Does the Declaration of Independence not say the all men are created equal.
1b. I believe that if slavery is legal, the slave trade should be legal. The slave trade is very important the the economy. The slave trade is necessary in order to get new slaves into the county. Bringing new slaves into circulation is important in keeping the wealth of plantation owners.

This states that the act of slavery cannot be prohibited by congress. Therefore, the constitutional convention said that slavery should be legal.

The Migration or Importation of such Persons as any of the States now existing shall think proper to admit, shall not be prohibited by the Congress prior to the Year one thousand eight hundred and eight, but a Tax or duty may be imposed on such Importation, not exceeding ten dollars for each Person. This says that the slave trade can continue. A tax, not exceeding ten dollars may be imposed.

No Person held to Service or Labor in one State, under the Laws thereof, escaping into another, shall, in Consequence of any Law or regulation therein, be discharged from such service or Labor, but shall be delivered up on Claim of the Party to whom such Service or Labor may be due10. This states that if a slave runs away to another state, he is not free from his service. He must be returned to his owner by anyone who finds him or
