Skopos Theory Essay

The thesis I chose for term paper , is utilized from Skopos theory. Because, to decide word choice, phrases, subjects and plot of book are vital for the translation for children’s literature. “As an important branch of literature, CL plays an important role in the growth of children’s psychology and the formation of their perception of things around them.”(Alsabbagh,2014;9) Subjects and words which are chosen in children’s book, should be proper for children. To care for psychological state of children, when adults novels are translated for children’s literature, the words and phrases should be selected cautiously. Also, It is important that the translated books are understood by children. Plot of books should be transposed in accordance with the children. Actions in books, slang words in books should be censored.The thesis I chose tells importance of skopos in children’s literature and express, what we should pay attention,to when we do translation for children. To write or translate a book, translators authors should consider mental health of children. In thesis I chose, Aliaa Abdulraouf Alsabbagh tells what skopos of children’s literature should be.

Also, the book covers are translated for children because the book covers for adults can inculde elements which are inappropriate. It is kind of localization but skopos is used. Target readers are children so book covers are shaped as suit for children. The books are translated for children and the book covers are changed for children. When a book cover are translated, the simple elements are used for children. In addition, localizers use covers which attract attention of children. (see appendix-1) In order to children understand and want to read a book, the books must be attractive. When the book covers are attractive, children get intend to read these
