How To Cure Itchy Skin On Dogs

Dogs can be prone to a condition in which their skin is so itchy and uncomfortable that they are constantly scratching themselves. Some can even fuss at the affected area with their claws and teeth until they've made it bald and keep at it until their skin even starts to bleed. If you're a dog owner in this situation, it won't take very long before you become desperate for some form of itchy dog skin relief for your pet.

Currently, veterinarians have several different chemicals that they recommend that will help to combat your dog's itchy skin. These products do work, however some dogs may have a bad allergic reaction to some chemicals, which can sometimes prove to be fatal. Instead,

Most dogs develop this condition because skin irritants such as dander, pollen and dirt cling to their coat. If these particles stay in the coat long enough they will begin to irritate the skin, which causes the dog to start scratching, chewing and biting at the spot. Just by brushing your dog's hair once a day, you can help prevent the build-up of these conditions that can lead to itchiness.

Bathing your dog is another excellent way to prevent him from developing itchy skin. But don't plan on bathing him on a daily basis, because too much water and shampoo will completely strip your dog of the oils that are naturally found on the skin. The skin can dry out easily when these natural oils get washed away, leading to more itchiness and even making his skin more prone to infection.

When you are grooming your dog make sure you pay attention to his ears. Dogs can attract small biting insects called ear mites, which can also cause a dog to start scratching away at his ears. An excessive amount of clawing and pulling at the ear can lead to some potential ear health

Your vet can prescribe topical antibiotic creams that can be applied to the affected area so it won't become infected. If your dog persists in clawing or biting at a specific area, you might need to have your dog wear one of those cone shaped collars that will prevent him from attacking the area until it gets a chance to heal
