The ideal body come from the media, the thought that Brazil is not being European enough, and the fact that the Brazilian people look at surgeons as “healers”. Surgeons are fulfilling requests for people saying they want different racial traits. For example, people are wanting “brown” bodies but “whitish” features like hair and facial features. The ethnography went into detail about how people are less concerned with skin color and more concerned with “white” features. For instance “sexy” Brazilian blonde is a black women with white hair. This is not the American version of a blonde, it is not “really white” because she is black. Another example that Pretty Modern has shown that surgeons are marking down racial traits as medical defects in one instance the ethnography states that a doctor marked down the “Correction of the Negroid nose” in the box labeled preoperative diagnosis. What is happening is the medicalization and disease-modification of race or racial incongruities. This is a problem because people are racializing body types and it is known that anyone can have these body types and bodily features are not because of race but rather the person's genetic makeup.
