Abdulla et al. they addressed the risks of getting skin cancer by absorbing UV rays. In the beginning of this essay they state that “According to the American Cancer Society, melanoma accounts of about 4% of skin cancer cases, but causes about 79% of skin cancer deaths” (Abdulla, 502). The skin cancer cases could dwindle in numbers if only the population were accurately informed about the simple ways to prevent the skin cancer itself. Their paper explains how tanning is causing skin cancer to impact our bodies. This deadly cancer all begins with tanning, or the exposure to UV rays. However, it is not accurate to just say UV rays as there are two different types. “UVA and UVB radiation [are the two types of ultraviolet radiation associated with skin cancer]. Wavelengths of light 280 to 320 NM are classified as UVB and longer wavelengths of 320 to 400 mm as UVA” (Abdulla, 502). In this specific paper the authors mainly focus on how UVB radiation affects the cartoonists as well as melanocytes to create different mutations in the bodies’ skin cells causing the production of cancer. It is shown that the mutations occurring are due to “…DNA damage and subsequent mutation…initiating steps for the onset of both melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancers” (Abdulla,
