Skeletal Muscle Report

My focus for this report is to explain the role of skeletal muscles in the body and a specific disease that can come from it, if not functioning properly. It is well known that the main function of the muscular system is to generate movement. The muscles work together to move the body and organs, while also maintaining posture and body temperature. There are three types of muscle tissue; skeletal, cardiac, and smooth. Skeletal muscle is the most common of the three, since it’s connected to bone all throughout our bodies. It’s also often considered to be under voluntary control, through nerve signals. "(Skeletal Muscle | Anatomy).
A group of muscle fascicles, or muscle cells, are surrounded by a type of connective tissue called epimysium. The muscles are attached to tendons, and those tendons are then attached to bone. Within muscle fascicles, there are groups of muscle fibers. The type of connective tissue that covers each fascicle, is called perimysium. Surrounding each muscle fiber is endomysium. (Skeletal Muscle Anatomy & Physiology). In the muscle fibers, there are groups of myofibrils. Myofibrils are made up of sarcomeres, thick filaments, and thin filaments, that aid in muscle contraction by shortening.

Jamesy’s parents, Karen and James Raffone, have started the foundation, “Jar of Hope”, with the goal of saving their sweet boy. Jamesy also has two older sisters, Marianna and Julia, and a puppy named Buggles, that he loves very much. He is an extremely happy, sweet, and kind boy that is full of life. He does not deserve the future that’s in store for him. The Raffones are a great family and they are determined to raise the awareness and funds needed to end Duchenne all together.
