Task Description: Students will explore and learn about the life of Sir Francis Drake through the use of different sources, one of the sources students will use is their Reflections social studies textbook, students will also read an informational text on Sir Francis Drake, and students will also watch a YouTube video about the life or Sir Francis Drake. For days one and day two students will be asked to fill out “Explorers of Early California Retrieval Chart, 1542-1603” as they read about the explorers of California they will fill out the chart which consist of the explorer’s obstacles, goals, and accomplishments. • Lesson Objectives: Students will read and learn about different Explorers and fill out a chart listing the explorers’ goals, obstacles, and accomplishments. This is a multiday lesson where students will be introduced to different types of sources such as texts, visuals, and realia. First students will be introduced to the explorers of early California, were they will be introduced to conquistadors from Spain and England. Students will read about these explorers from their Reflections social studies textbook which is lesson 1 from unit 2, page 110. The first activity from this multiday lesson as students read and learn about each explorer consist of students filling out a chart “Explorers of Early California Retrieval Chart, 1542-1603”. This chart Includes the explorers: Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, Sir Francis Drake, Sebastian Rodrigues Cermeno, and Sebastian Vizcaino. Students have to fill out information for each explorer such as the country that sponsored them, the year they set to explore, aims/goals, accomplishments, and obstacles/failures. This activity will consist of two days since reading and discussion will take place after covering each
