Would it not be great to be able to prevent conflict altogether? Not having to resolve any disputes, or differences, and having complete harmony. Authors, Ken Sande and Kevin Johnson, share their knowledge in their book titled, Resolving everyday conflict, providing a Christian view on conflict resolution (Sande & Johnson, 2011).…

The five conflict styles consist of competing, avoiding, accommodating, compromising and collaborating (Griffith & Dunham, 2015). The competing method can help to bring more turmoil into the group while working toward a resolution. If a member feels threatened that others will be perceived in a better light, then their competitiveness may arise and could override the want to work within a group setting. Although, the avoiding conflict style is where most individuals are trying to avoid the conflicts that may arise. However, altogether avoiding the situation will not make it go away and the conflict never gets resolution.…

Gray-zone conflicts currently present the most significant security threat confronting U.S. strategists and planners. Recent events by Russia in the Ukraine and China in the South China Sea are current examples of these gray-zone threats. Applying components from two international relations (IR) theories to gray-zone conflicts will create a framework for U.S. strategists. Using components of realism and liberalism and combining them will provide the U.S. a policy instrument with both hard and soft power to deal with these styles of conflicts. Consequently, a third IR theory constructivism offers very little to U.S. planners to help them with a strategy for gray-zone conflicts.…
