Twilight by Stephenie Meyer is no doubt one of the most popular books of this generation. Some even argue that it has become more popular than the Harry Potter book series. Although this could be debated what is definitely not up for debate is that Twilight has left a mark on this world. One of the most significant outcomes of Twilight is the extensive amount of fanfiction that has been created around the fictional town of Forks,Washington and its residents specifically Edward Cullen and Isabella (Bella) Swan. The most notable work of fanfiction written based on Twilight is “Master of the Universe” by E.L James. This fan fiction was then transformed and published under the title Fifty Shades of Grey. It is also one of the many similarities between Twilight and Fifty Shades of Grey. Twilight takes place in the small, always raining town of Forks,Washington. Fifty Shades of Grey takes place in Seattle,Washington. There are a few differences between Forks and Seattle. One of the biggest differences is the fact that Forks is a small town with only a few thousand residents meanwhile Seattle is a big city with a lot more residents. One of the similarities between the setting are the fact that they are both in the same state. In the original fan fiction “Master of the Universe” the protagonists names were Edward and Bella but this was later changed when the novel got picked up for publication. Bella and Anastasia are essentially the same character. They are both thin, pale skinned, brown-haired young women who are shy, quiet,slightly socially awkward and don 't seem to fit in very well. They are both also very clumsy and prefer keeping their nose in a book instead of participating in group activities as it just isn 't their thing Not only are their physical appearance and personalities similar to one another but so are their backstories. Both Bella and Ana’s parents are divorced, their paternal figure lives close to them while their mothers live in a different state with their new husbands. “How could I leave my loving, erratic, harebrained mother to fend for herself ?
