Similarities Between Tom And Jay Gatsby

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is one of the greatest books in american literature. With its rich storytelling and character development, a reader can really dive into its pages. The story centers around a man named Jay Gatsby, who has a deep love for a woman named Daisy . The only problem is that she already has a husband, Tom. Although they have their similarities, it’s their major differences that make these two men clash over Daisy. First of all, these two men have just a few similarities. For example, they both are extremely wealthy at the time this book takes place. They have huge mansions and lots of servants. Another similarity is the fact that both have Daisy’s affection throughout the book, even though they both get different affection from her, it's still affection. First off, Gatsby lives in West Egg and Tom lives in East Egg. The two wealthy areas are different in which the way the people obtain their riches. In West Egg, the wealthy people people are looked down upon due to the fact that they earned their money through hard work, and wasn’t just inherited like the East Egg people. On page 5 it say “ I lived in West Egg, the- well, the less fashionable of the two, though this is a most superficial tag to express the bizarre and not a little sinister contrast between them”. Also on page 5 it says “Across the courtesy bay the white palaces of fashionable East Egg glittered along the water…” . Those two statements show the contrasting attributes between the wealthy areas and how differently they are looked upon by people. Another difference is the way they spend their money. Gatsby earned and spends his money for Daisy. He throws huge parties to impress her and give her a lavish life. Tom on the other hand inherited all his money and doesn't spoil her. He spends it on himself and his
