In The Scarlet Letter the women would shout at Hester saying things like she deserved more of a punishment or that she should be labeled for the rest of her life. In Witchcraft in Salem the townspeople judged those accused for witchcraft before they were ever even convicted. Those that were accused of these wrongdoings were then put through a 5 step trial. The trial consisted of a test, physical evidence, a witnesses testimony, spectral evidence, and a confession. Those that confessed had to ask forgiveness from the townspeople and often had things taken from them but those that refused received the punishment of public
