In Shahnameh, it was the story of Rostam and Sohrab and The Kite Runner it was about Baba and his son Amir. Tracing back to where this historical figure lies, it is an important factor that I will first discuss the relationship of Rostam’s father (Zal) and Baba’s father (unnamed). Although I only have the fragments of their identity and they are only mentioned in the story rarely or even once, but it is important to stress the idea that they will serve as an influence in the main characters of the story. Zal is the father of Rostam, a legendary King and one of the greatest warriors in the Persian Army. He ruled Zaboulistan and served as a general and advisor to the King. He trained Rostam and even sent him to campaigns. He had another son named Shagad, from which the authority warned him that the child is evil, he refused to abandon him. Just like Zal, Baba’s father is a highly regarded judge and a man who has an impeccable reputation. Baba’s father adopted Ali when Ali became an orphan at the age of five when both of his parents were killed by drunk young men on the road to Paghman. He even ordered his servants to tutor and be kind to Ali. The story of “Rostam and Sohrab” when Sohrab did everything in search of his father, he became impulsive in his actions, he killed everyone who goes against his will, he did everything he can to gather information about his father. Just like what Amir strives to do, he took the opportunity of Hassan’s foolishness and loyalty by running the kite even when Hassan got raped, by framing Hassan for the loss of his watch, Amir did everything to get Baba’s full attention and love. Unluckily the characters had their late realization and in return for the negligence of their actions, Rostam lost his own son by killing him and Baba and Amir lost Ali and Hassan when they decided to move back to Hazarajat, their native province. And as a way to redeem their selves, Rostam promised Sohrab not to continue the war among the Turks and Amir, promised to take care and adopt of Hassan’s son, Sohrab when Hassan and his wife got killed by the Talibans.
