Spending the first fifteen years of my life back and forth between New York City and Long Island, I got to live in both, a cement jungle and a green paradise. There were differences between my suburban home and city one, but not as vast as the differences I found during/on my annual trips to my parents’ homeland, India.
My family and I would drink water straight from the tap without a single worry back in the States but in India, our water would be boiled twice and filtered at least once before it was considered almost safe to drink. The lack of environmental cleanliness would lead my brother and I to spend days on end visiting the doctor and bathroom.
