To commence with, a clear distinction between Buddhism and Hinduism is their perspective over animal sacrifices. After returning from enlightenment, the Buddha advised his followers to not kill any living creatures; doing so would be breaking the right of conduct in the Eightfold Path. However, in Hinduism animals were constantly being sacrificed.

The Buddha claimed that people were composed of Skandhas. Influenced by karma, the skandhas would change after a person's death. However, by following the Eightfold Path people could find their true self and achieve Nirvana. Once Nirvana was achieved a person would no longer be affected by Nirvana and the skandhas would dissolve.
Also, Hindus believed in a supreme being; however the Buddha refused to acknowledge the existence a universal soul. The Buddha believed that it was a waste of time to search for a supreme being; people should spend time worrying about Dharma instead. He believed that if you focused on his teachings a supreme being was irrelevant and didn’t matter.
